Cultural Competency

AIM: To provide an understanding of how to recognise and respond appropriately to the signs of Mental ill Health, whilst exploring the different examples of mental health in our diverse workforce, the social and environmental factors taking an intersectional and culturally competent approach which is inclusive, and trauma informed

At the end of this 4 hour course participants will be able to:

  • Recognise those that may be experiencing poor mental health and provide them with first-level support and early intervention
  • Improved knowledge of cultural attitudes to mental health
  • Encourage a person to identify and access sources of professional help and other supports
  • Increased cultural humility and increased awareness of internal stereotypes
  • Practice active listening and empathy
  • Key principle of Trauma Informed practice
  • Have a conversation with improved mental health literacy around language and stigma
  • Increased knowledge and understanding around the impact of structural inequalities on mental health and how to address this in practice.

Training is 4 hours (09.30-13.30) via Zoom and costs £99.
